Use this planner to develop an innovative solution based on the coronavirus case study. Complete each section in order, compare your ideas, then generate a final innovation summary.
Student task: identify the problem, gather evidence, brainstorm ideas, evaluate them, choose the strongest solution, and explain the science behind it.
Innovation Challenge
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people struggled to understand how the coronavirus spreads and how their behaviour affects transmission. To address this problem, the Global Health Media Project created an educational animation called “The Story of Coronavirus.” The video used simple visuals and storytelling to help people understand how the virus spreads and what actions can reduce infection.
Although the video was widely viewed and translated into many languages, challenges remain. Many people still misunderstand disease transmission, misinformation spreads quickly online, and scientific information about viruses continues to evolve.
You are part of a global science communication team. Your task is to design an innovative solution that helps people better understand how infectious diseases spread and how they can protect themselves.
Your innovation could involve digital technology, mobile applications, interactive simulations, games or visual tools, educational campaigns, or new forms of media communication.
Use the Innovation Planner to analyse the problem, generate ideas, evaluate possible solutions, and design your final innovative concept.
Step 1
Student Information
Step 2
Define the Problem
Step 3
Evidence from the Case Study
Tip: Include facts such as how the virus spreads, why it spread rapidly, or how it affected schools, health systems, travel, and communities.
Step 4
Brainstorm Three Innovative Ideas
Idea
Description
How it helps reduce disease spread
Step 5
Evaluate Your Ideas
Score each idea from 1 to 5 for each criterion. Higher scores are better.
