Hibiscus Observation Lab – Simple (Bermuda Edition)

AP Biology • Unit 5: Heredity • Record traits in local hibiscus and auto‑summarize counts

Instructions for Students

  1. Work with a partner or small group to observe 5–6 different hibiscus plants around the campus or neighborhood.
  2. Record each flower’s color and petal type in the Observation Table. Use the Add Rows buttons to include more samples if needed.
  3. Be respectful of the plants — do not pick or damage any flowers. Observations can be made visually or by taking photographs.
  4. After entering your data, click Recalculate to see totals and percentages in the Auto Summary section.
  5. Use the Auto Summary results to answer each of the Analysis Questions in the section below.
  6. Type your responses directly into each box under the Analysis Questions. Your answers will print when you use the Print / Save as PDF option.
  7. If you make a mistake, use Clear All Rows or Clear Answers to start over.
  8. When finished, click Print / Save as PDF to create a copy of your completed lab for submission.
  9. Be sure to include your name, class, date, and location in the Student Info section before printing.
  10. Optional: Discuss your results with classmates and identify any common trends or patterns across the class data.
